Automation of the entire production process, from olive fruit reception to the extraction of the oil, designed so the whole plant can be run under the supervision of a single operator — without any compromise on precision or the quality of the final product.
KPautomation undertook the automation of the entire olive oil production line for the Megaelaion Zois olive mill. The installation starts at the reception and weighing station, where each batch of olives is logged individually per producer through a dedicated touch screen, and continues through nine Alfa Laval malaxers, the decanter and the vertical separators that complete the oil extraction. Every stage is supervised by its own Siemens SIMATIC HMI touch panel, while a central SCADA screen gives a complete real-time view of production.
In olive oil production, the quality of the final product depends heavily on precise control of malaxation temperature and time, as well as on a steady flow of olive paste through the line. Automation keeps these parameters consistent for every batch, without the variation that manual control would introduce, with a direct effect on the acidity and the organoleptic character of the finished oil.
For absolute accuracy in measuring the flow of the produced olive oil, Coriolis-type flow meters were used, which measure the mass flow rate directly, independent of temperature or density variations — a critical point both for quality control and for a transparent record of production per producer. The result is a plant that can run under the supervision of a single operator, without sacrificing any precision or quality in the product.
